Standing Firm: Learning to Fight Life’s Battles

Ephesians 6:11

“Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

Life sometimes feels like a battlefield. There are days when everything seems calm, and there are days when we face emotional struggles, financial worries, relationship pain, or even sickness. In those moments we may ask, How do I stand strong? How do I fight these battles?

Paul gives us a powerful answer in Ephesians 6:11. He tells us to put on the whole armor of God so that we can stand against the adversary, the devil.

But this raises an important question:

What does it mean to put on the armor of God?

This is not armor made with human hands. It is not something we manufacture by our own effort, discipline, or strength. The armor of God is spiritual. It comes from understanding and trusting what Christ has already accomplished for us on the cross.

So putting on the armor of God is really about believing and living from the truth of what God has done for us through Jesus.

Let us begin with the first piece of armor.

The Belt of Truth

Paul starts with the belt of truth.

In ancient times, the belt held everything together. Without the belt, the rest of the armor would not stay in place. In the same way, truth holds our spiritual life together.

One important thing to remember is this:

Facts can change, but truth never changes.

Facts may say you are facing a difficult situation.

Facts may say your finances are tight.

Facts may say your body feels weak.

But the truth about God never changes.

Two foundational truths that hold everything together are:

God is good.

God is love.

When these truths are firmly planted in our hearts, they become a strong foundation. Even when life brings emotional storms, these truths keep us steady.

When we truly believe that God is good and God is love, we begin to see our situations differently. We know that we are not alone, and we know that our lives are in safe hands.

Living in Relationship with God

God is not distant. He loves relationship.

Just like you would talk to a close friend, you can talk to God. You can share your feelings, your struggles, your hopes, and your plans. You can bring everything to Him.

Jesus himself said that when we ask in His name, God hears us.

In my own life, I have experienced this personally. There were times when I struggled with sickness. In those moments, I prayed and asked God for strength. I held on to the promise that “by His stripes we are healed.”

By God’s grace, I experienced healing from several ailments, and I have also witnessed healing testimonies in the lives of people around me.

These experiences remind me that God is not just an idea. He is real, loving, and active in our lives.

When Life Feels Broken

Sometimes life can shake us deeply. Financial struggles may arise. Relationships may break. Our hopes may feel shattered.

But even in those moments, if you are standing on the truth that God is good and God is love, you are standing on solid ground.

The Bible reminds us that all things work together for good for those who trust Him.

So do not lose hope.

Your story is not finished.

You have a purpose in the kingdom of God. You were not born by accident. You were born with meaning and intention.

If today you feel broken…

If your heart feels heavy…

If you feel like giving up…

Pause for a moment and remember this:

You are a valuable and precious human being on this earth.

Your life has meaning.

And one day, the very battles you are facing today may become the testimony that brings hope to someone else.

You may become a hope-giver to many.
